Oil Hunt In kerala
Oil India is conducting its largest-ever oil well exploration in the Kerala sea. Our country has been heavily reliant on others to meet its energy needs, but that may no longer be necessary.
The Reason Is: Indian oil company, Oil India Limited (OIL), has started a major drilling campaign for oil and natural gas exploration in the deep waters adjoining the Kerala-Konkan coast. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri released this news a few days ago.
The benefit we stand to gain from this is immense. It is expected that this will help increase domestic oil production and reduce our reliance on imports.
KEY INFORMATION AT A GLANCE
LOCATION: Kerala-Konkan Basin (approximately 20 nautical miles offshore from the Kollam coast).
Depth: The first well will be drilled to a depth of approximately 6,000 meters. This will be one of the deepest offshore wells ever drilled in India’s history!
GOAL: To find more oil and natural gas, strengthening the country’s energy self-sufficiency.
